Mobile game Crux adds legendary climbers and announces competition with real prices worth over $4.500.
Alex Megos first to join virtual roster in time for international eSport competition that will run in parallel to the Tokyo Olympics.
Stockholm, Sweden - August 2nd, 2021. As climbing makes its debut as an Olympic sport, last year’s mobile climbing game success Crux (iOS Game of the Day, PocketGamer Awards nominee) starts to add well-known climbers such as Alex Megos to the game.
Crux creator Ben Dressler: “As climbing gets a much bigger stage this year, we wanted to allow players to compete as some of the world’s most accomplished climbers - similar to how you play as Ronaldo or Neymar in FIFA. We’re super excited to start with Alex Megos and have a great lineup that we’ll announce soon!”
Alex Megos: “For me it’s style first. So it was a no-brainer for me to bring the fancy shorts to the digital climbing world.”
The new characters will be in-app purchases but players can also earn them by watching ads or competing in tournaments. Players can compete for Alex - and real world prizes like climbing shoes and training equipment - in the upcoming Crux Nations Cup, from August 2-8th.
The tournament is run in partnership with 27Crags and KletterRetter and will also feature prizes from HRT Holds, BestBoulders, Bergfreunde and Max Climbing.
